Frequently Asked Questions

Does this tool upload my text?

No. Everything happens in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

Can I export an image?

Yes. The result can be downloaded as a PNG that keeps the vertical layout exactly as shown.

Which fonts are available?

Three system faces (monospace, Kai, Song/Ming), plus LXGW WenKai (Traditional, hand-pen Kai), HanWang LiSu (Traditional, clerical script), and four brush faces: Bakudai (Traditional, regular and bold), Ma Shan Zheng, Zhi Mang Xing and Long Cang (Simplified). All are free for commercial use and are only downloaded when selected. Font size is adjustable.

What are the font licences?

LXGW WenKai, Bakudai, Ma Shan Zheng, Zhi Mang Xing and Long Cang are under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. HanWang LiSu (HanWangLiSuMedium, (C) Dr. Hann-Tzong Wang, 2002-2004) is under the GNU General Public License v2 or later; the full licence text and the original font file are linked in the font licence box further down this page.

Why is clerical script Traditional-only?

No freely licensed Simplified clerical face appears to exist. HanWang LiSu covers 13,970 characters — 98.3% of common Big5 — but only around 65% of Simplified characters, so pick another font for Simplified text.

How are paragraphs handled?

Every line break in the input starts a new paragraph, and every paragraph starts a fresh column rather than running on after the previous one.

What is the signature (落款) option?

With it ticked, the last paragraph — or the trailing sentence, if there is only one paragraph — is aligned to the bottom of its column with space above it and set at 60% of the body size, imitating a traditional calligraphic signature. Convention puts the signature at one half to two thirds of the body text.

Is there a length limit?

There is no server-side limit. Very long text may be awkward to display.

What is it good for?

Classical poetry cards, calligraphy practice sheets, traditional-style social media posts and the like.

Is it free?

Completely free, no account needed.
