Frequently Asked Questions
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Trimming uses FFmpeg WebAssembly running entirely in your browser. Your video never leaves your device.
Can I cut several pieces at once?
Yes. Add as many time spans as you need. Retrieve mode keeps those spans and joins them into one video in timeline order; Subtract mode removes them and joins everything that is left.
What is the difference between Retrieve and Subtract?
They are opposites over the same list. Given a 10-minute video and the span 2:00–3:00, Retrieve returns that one minute, while Subtract returns the other nine with that minute taken out.
Does the order I enter the spans in matter?
No. Spans are sorted by start time and overlapping ones are merged before anything is cut, so the output never repeats or drops a frame. Subtract mode works out what to keep against the original timeline in one pass, so earlier cuts cannot shift later timestamps.
What is fast copy mode?
Fast copy re-cuts the video without re-encoding, preserving original quality and completing almost instantly.
When should I disable fast copy?
Fast copy snaps to keyframes, so the actual cut point may be slightly imprecise. For frame-accurate cuts, switch to Precise and the video is re-encoded (slower but exact).
Which video formats can I trim?
MP4, WebM, MKV, MOV, AVI, and most common video formats.
Can I preview before trimming?
Yes. Use the built-in video player to preview your selected time range before processing. The ⤓ buttons next to each span copy the player position straight into the start or end field.
Is there a duration or file size limit?
No server-side limit. Very long videos may use significant browser memory.
