Your iPhone can convert almost any content into a PDF — web pages, photos, documents, and even emails — without downloading a third-party app. This guide covers every built-in method: converting web pages in Safari, turning photos into PDFs, using the Files app, and exporting from Notes and other apps.
1. Save a Web Page as PDF in Safari (Print to PDF)
This is the most commonly used method and works for any web page:
- Open the web page you want to save in Safari.
- Tap the Share button (the box with an arrow) in the bottom toolbar.
- Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Print.
- In the print preview screen, use a two-finger pinch-out (spread apart) gesture on the preview thumbnail. This opens a full-screen PDF preview.
- Tap the Share button in the top-right corner → Save to Files → choose a folder → tap Save.
On iOS 16 and later, the share sheet includes a Make PDF option directly — tap it to create and save the PDF without going through the Print screen.
2. Convert Photos to PDF
Turn one or more photos into a PDF in a few taps:
- Open the Photos app, tap Select, and tap each photo you want to include.
- Tap the Share button in the lower-left corner.
- Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Print.
- Use the two-finger pinch-out gesture on the print preview to jump to the PDF preview.
- Tap Share → Save to Files and choose a location.
- Multiple selected photos each become one page in the resulting PDF.
3. Create a PDF from Images Using the Files App
- Save your images to the Files app first (via Share → Save to Files from Photos).
- Open Files, navigate to the folder containing the images, and long-press a file or select multiple files.
- Tap Quick Actions → Create PDF.
- A PDF is generated in the same folder with the same filename.
- For multiple selected images, Create PDF merges them into one multi-page PDF.
4. Export a Note as PDF
Any Note — whether text, checklists, tables, or sketches — can be exported as a PDF:
- Open the Notes app and navigate to the note you want to export.
- Tap the ⋯ (More) button in the top-right corner.
- Tap Send a Copy.
- In the share sheet, tap Save to Files. The note saves as a PDF by default.
5. Save an Email as PDF
To save the body of an email as a PDF:
- Open the email in the Mail app.
- Tap the Reply icon → choose Print.
- Use the two-finger pinch-out gesture on the print preview, then tap Share → Save to Files.
6. Convert Pages / Word Documents to PDF
- In the Pages app: tap ⋯ → Export → PDF. Choose image quality (Best, Normal, or Smaller) and tap Export.
- In the Microsoft Word app: tap ⋯ → Export → select PDF.
- In most other apps, the Print → pinch-out trick works as a universal fallback for creating PDFs.
7. Tips for Multi-Page PDFs
- Select multiple photos in the Photos app and print them together to produce a multi-page PDF.
- Select multiple images or PDFs in Files app and use Create PDF to merge them.
- Scan multiple document pages in one session using Notes or Files app — the result is already a single multi-page PDF.
8. Troubleshooting
- No “Make PDF” option in share sheet: Your iOS version may be older than 16. Use the Print → pinch-out method instead.
- Web page PDF is incomplete: Ensure the full page has loaded before converting. Dynamically loaded content may not appear.
- PDF file size is too large: Compress photos before converting, or compress the resulting PDF using an online tool.
- Can’t find the saved PDF: Open the Files app → tap Recents to find the most recently saved file.
Once you know the entry point in each app, creating a PDF on iPhone takes only a few seconds. For compressing, merging, or further processing your PDF, use the free online tool below.
